Hi,

Time goes by fast - no sooner 7.0 was unleashed on the world than 7.1 bangs
at the door.  I would like to bring a couple of points regarding this.

There is enough time yet, but it would make full sense all the RFC authors
targeting 7.1 to finalize the work and get the RFC voted. Or the RFCs, that
have not been discussed yet - still some time is there to go through the
full RFC process and get them ready for 7.1. It is anyway the right moment
to intensify the discussions and work on 7.1 features and patches.

It looks also like the right time to elect the 7.1 RMs. Please everyone
interested to run for 7.1 RMs announce your candidacy to this thread. I
would suggest to start the poll on this two weeks after this message, with
the two weeks vote period.

The prerelease cycle start could then happen already in June (or July,
depends whether one wants to wait till 5.5 EOL). Anyway, having the new RMs
team we can start to plan and proceed with the 7.1 prerelease cycle.

Hi.

The Co-RM is the version-1 RM, so it will be Anatol, RM of 7.0.
We are looking for a "master" RM here :-)

co-RM can simply mean "one of the two RMs", and emphasize that somebody
would volunteer to take the role but not being comfortable to doing it
alone so I think we are on the same page.

Thanks for the response. So, how would you see being the master RM for 7.1? I'd introduce you to the basics and would support in the pre-phase, so then you'd be fit to do things independently later on. If later there's yet one more volunteer, they can join you right at the moment. Otherwise you could count on me with some on demand help, ofc.

Anatol,

I'm honestly not 100% sure what all is involved, is this documented
somewhere?

I'm a bit worried that my lack of C mastery will be an issue, but if that's
not a problem, then I'd be glad to move forward as you say above.

C knowledge is not required but a good thing.

Also C knowledge is required to know the impact of a patch internally.
Enough people are around to actually review patches and raises
possible issues. I would not worry too much about that. Lukas for
example did a great job and was not a C developer to begin with.

The key role however of the RM is to ensure that the release process
goes smoothly, the planing is respected and BC is kept during the full
life of a given release.

Yeah, good description.

Davey, Joe, looks like we have a team now! I've already created the https://wiki.php.net/todo/php71 . Added myself as well, similarly to todo70, so we have more chance to have one team to be selected. I'd be waiting yet till Tuesday and send the voting invitation. After the one week vote (as per RFC), we'll be super good in time for planning and preparations.

Nice, we are moving forward !

Anyway, Anatol and I are here to help with the tasks.
The job is mainly about reviewing code, and above all : organize
people and human beeings.
This is really a human-targeted job, more than a code-oriented job.


But the job requires involvement every month at least, and that, for
at least a 3-year period.
