mysql extension and libmysql

The bundled libmysql has debugging facilities (ext/mysql/libmysql/dbug.c). Is this feature redundant (i.e. not used) as far as the mysql extension is concerened ? Since there seems no way to enable it through the mysql config directives or apis. -- Roshan
